To help promote the reliability and validity of the portfolio assessment process, ODE and CETE/OSU worked together to establish the following requirements:
Assessor Selection
A person scoring Teaching Professions portfolios must:
- be a licensed educator (e.g. principal, college partner, mentor teacher, counselor, field experience cooperating teacher, Educational Service Center staff);
- be selected and trained by the Teaching Professions teacher on how to score the portfolio;.
Assessment Procedures
- The WebXam website is available 24/7. An assessor may enter portfolio scores at any time of day. Evaluations do not need to take place at school.
- Each assessor should allot 1-2 hours per portfolio.
Assessment Policies
- Two outside assessors are required per portfolio.
- Each assessor must evaluate the entire portfolio.
- An assessor may grade more than one portfolio.
- Assessors should not share student scores with teachers.
- Once the assessor submits a score in WebXam, the score is final (cannot be changed).
- In case a third assessor is required, WebXam will notify the teacher.
- Student rubric comments can only be printed in WebXam.
- A teacher does not collect assessors’ scoring rubrics.
- A teacher is not present during the scoring of a rubric.
- Teachers are responsible for the training of assessors, so that they understand the process and therefore minimize errors that have an impact on student learners.
